Geoff Coats
His ‘D’ in figure drawing is the closest Geoff has come to any formal design training. His early study of communications and media theory lead inexplicably to research in France, Senegal, and the United States in pursuit of a Ph.D. in African History. Moving to New Orleans initiated an infatuation
with urban design, architecture, and the nexus of culture and the built environment. At Zande+Newman, Geoff contributes thoughts on information design and project management while heading up web and multimedia projects. He also serves as the link between the studio and the craftspeople and fabricators who bring the designs to life. Unable to abandon community activism, Geoff co-founded The Urban Conservancy in 2001 and continues to be involved in its efforts to build a just and sustainable city. Geoff lives in the St. Roch neighborhood of New Orleans where he is renovating a shotgun house with his fiancee wife Karley and their dogs Stanley and T-Bone. E-mail Geoff
